The child immediately alerted her 16-year-old sister, Sarah Grace Patrick, who then called the police. When officers arrived at the scene, Sarah told them she hadn’t heard any gunshots that night. An investigation was quickly launched. In the days following the murder, Sarah documented the tragic aftermath on her TikTok account. In one video, she tearfully read a eulogy at her parents’ funeral, saying

“Even though there’s nothing we can do to bring them back, we still have control over how we treat people.”

Another video showed clips of her mother and stepfather overlaid with white text

“They don’t know it, but a year from now me and my 5-year-old sister would find them wrongfully shot dead in our home and won’t be able to watch me graduate high school, see me walk down the aisle, or even say goodbye.”

A separate post showed Sarah in tears, mascara running down her face, captioned

Please send prayers for healing and a break from everything. I’m so tired. I should probably delete this later.

Kristin’s father, Dennis Nolan, offered a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of whoever was responsible. In a public statement, he said:

“These murders — whoever did them — were cold-blooded.”

On July 8, nearly six months later, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference announcing a major development Sarah Grace Patrick, now 17, had been arrested and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection to the deaths of her mother and stepfather.

Ashley Hulsey, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office

Ashley Hulsey, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, told the media:

“We have mountains of physical and digital evidence collected over the course of the investigation.”

She continued:

“We don’t know what goes through the mind of a child who wants to harm their parents. She’s 17. She’s kind of been out on her own, lived with different family members, and moved all over the place… A big takeaway from this story is that a mother and stepfather will never be able to raise their children. I believe he James Brock was waiting on a heart transplant at some point. And to have life cut short…”

In an interview with NewsNation’s Ashleigh Banfield, Hulsey briefly discussed how detectives were led to Sarah’s arrest. She said the department had looked into multiple family members and other suspects, following evidence gathered from phone records, social media, and digital devices.

“There is a possibility that more arrests could be made,” Hulsey noted.

“Different information we’ve gotten throughout the investigation — and now that she’s in custody — could possibly lead to other individuals that may have been a part of this.”

Sarah was informed of the arrest warrant by investigators and, accompanied by her father, voluntarily turned herself in. According to Hulsey, Sarah has been cooperative but is now represented by a public defender.

Sarah’s grandfather, Dennis Nolan, spoke with NewsNation in a phone interview and expressed doubt over his granddaughter’s involvement.

“It’s hard to make a judgment at this point. They have to release the evidence, and I don’t understand what they have. From what I’ve heard, it’s mostly circumstantial,” he said. “She’s my granddaughter. I have to stand behind her. She swears she’s innocent.”

When asked if he had been in contact with detectives, Nolan responded

“I’ve talked to them at length, and they don’t release any information. If they had something concrete, they would’ve arrested her a lot sooner.” He added

“I just can’t imagine her doing this. She’s a sweet young lady. She and her mother were very close and doing great at th]e time.”

Nolan acknowledged that, like most teenage daughters, Sarah and her mother had disagreements but insisted “nothing serious.” He also noted James Brock’s criminal past and past affiliation with a motorcycle gang, speculating

“I wonder if this is James’ past coming back to haunt them.”

Asked whether he had spoken to Sarah since her arrest, Nolan said

“I spoke to her after she was in jail. She was very upset. She looked to me more as a father figure. She was begging me to help. I told her to just do what they say and be cooperative — we’ll do what we can.”

In a surprising twist, a TikTok true crime creator with the username Allegedly Reportedly, who has over 12,000 followers, claimed that Sarah Grace privately reached out to her. In a message, Sarah allegedly wrote

@allegedlyreportedly

I am in absolute shock right now. An arrest has been made in the case of James and Kristin Brock who’s lives were taken in February - the person arrested is their daughter - who previously asked me to cover their case?!? #fyp #crime #truecrime #JamesBrock #KristinBrock #SarahGracePatrick

“Look up Brok case.”

When the creator replied, “Brock Turner who?” Sarah clarified:

“They’re my parents. And out of nowhere, a random Thursday night in February, someone came in my house with me and my five-year-old sister and left my parents for us to wake up to.”

Sarah reportedly contacted at least three true crime TikTok creators, commenting on videos and responding to questions about what occurred that night and what weapon was used. As of now, Sarah Grace Patrick is being charged as an adult and could face life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted. The investigation remains active. Authorities say additional arrests are possible as more evidence is uncovered.
